چکیده

Patterned by adhesion laborate tissue patterns are formed by two cell types with complementary adhesion molecules, as revealed by Sujin Bao and Ross Cagan (Washington University, St. Louis, MO). Favored heterophilic attractions between the two adhesion molecules, they show, pattern the fly eye. Patterning has often taken a back seat to fate determination in cell biology studies. “We’ve spent buckets of time,” says Cagan, “finding all sorts of signaling molecules that explain cell fate, but not patterning. We can make kidney cells [in vitro], but how do you sort E

Nanometer-scale patterned surfaces for control of cell adhesion.

A novel cell-adhesion surface, controlled by nanometer-scale topography and chemical patterning, was developed using semiconductor fabrication methods and the formation of self-assembled monolayers. The patterned surface had a sharp contrast between the adsorption and non-adsorption of proteins and cells, and the contrast could be maintained for more than 10 days. The patterning method could ea...

Towards a tunable and switchable water adhesion on a TiO(2) nanotube film with patterned wettability.

Tunable water adhesion was realized on a TiO(2) nanotube film with patterned wettability formed via selective illumination through a mask. Meanwhile, the adhesion can be switched between sliding superhydrophobicity and sticky superhydrophobicity by masked illumination and heat annealing.

Roll-to-roll continuous patterning and transfer of graphene via dispersive adhesion.

We present a roll-to-roll, continuous patterning and transfer of graphene sheets capable of residue-free and fast patterning. The graphene sheet is supported with dispersive adhesion. Graphene is continuously patterned by the difference in adhesion forces with a pre-defined embossed roller. The patterned graphene sheet adheres to the polyethylene terephthalate (PET)/silicone with very low stren...

Nano rough micron patterned titanium for directing osteoblast morphology and adhesion

Previous studies have demonstrated greater functions ofosteoblasts (bone-forming cells) on nanophase compared with conventional metals. Nanophase metals possess a biologically inspired nanostructured surface that mimics the dimensions of constituent components in bone, including collagen and hydroxyapatite. Not only do these components possess dimensions on the nanoscale, they are aligned in a ...

The effect of surface microtopography of poly(dimethylsiloxane) on protein adsorption, platelet and cell adhesion.

Chemical homogeneous poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) surface with dot-like protrusion pattern was used to investigate the individual effect of surface microtopography on protein adsorption and subsequent biological responses. Fibrinogen (Fg) and fibronectin (Fn) were chosen as model proteins due to their effect on platelet and cell adhesion, respectively. Fg labeled with (125)I and fluorescein is...
